The Extravaganza lived up to its name!! We had a fantastic turnout of 75 people, great cars to look at (ours and the museum's), excellent food, and very well deserved awards for some of our members. Special thanks to Jacquie Lietz for putting this event together. The planning for this event started early last year. I would like to thank David Ray for his presentation, and congratulate all the recipients of the various awards. One of our most prestigious awards, the John Cleaver Award, went to Walt and Jacquie Lietz. It is the Chapter's humble way of trying to acknowledge all the support they've given and continue to give to the club. I believe you get the most out of the club by being involved. And they sure are involved!
This month we have the Super Bowl party, Keller Estate Tour, Death Valley tour, and Africa slide show. Yes, that's every weekend this month!
There are 34 Diablo Chapter events planned for this year so far. And that doesn't include the combination of Walnut Creek and Pleasanton breakfasts, the monthly Danville dinner, or our monthly board meetings. Yes, any member can also attend our board meetings. Plus we are co-hosting a Rally School with the Yosemite Chapter, and GGR has their popular autocross events in Alameda. PCA Parade is in "close by" Salt Lake City this year; there should be good attendance from the Diablo chapter. We know it is not possible to attend all the events (only because some happen at the same time as others and in different locations), but we do provide many fun excuses/reasons to drive your Porsche (on the street and track), visit with fellow members, and see some interesting places. Check out the current Diablo Newsletter and read those e-mails we send out for the latest information. As a PCA member, you have many choices. Sign up for your favorite events and join the fun.
This is nothing new for Porsche fans, but, from what I've been reading, the 2012 Carrera (991) is turning out to be a bit controversial. Although I have not yet read any complete test drives, some are saying it is too tame, numb (?), luxurious etc. compared to the 997 version. But then, it reportedly is as fast as the 997 GT3 on the Nurburgring, so something must be right. Whether we like it or not, more technology and complexity is going into virtually all new cars (can you still by a new Morgan?) I first saw the 991 at Rennsport in Monterey and immediately liked it. I'm looking forward to hearing more about it. In the mean time, I'm quite happy with my Cayman S.
