Driver Education, August 2013

Details

Driver EducationFirst off, a slight change – the next DE 101/201 is now on August 21st at 6.30pm in Walnut Creek at the Community Center Lounge, 1375 Civic Drive in preparation for Thunderhill on 9/5. [Or sign up for the event here.]

We will begin with an overview for those new to the track experience. Then, using track maps and video, we’ll walkthrough some laps, providing commentary for experienced drivers too. Of course, we’ll also get pizza shipped in to sustain us through the evening!

Come out, join us – and share your experience and meet the Diablo DE team. There will be a number of our Instructors attending to answer questions and we will help you get the most out of your track days.

Beginner group sells out fast – we are already more than half full in that group and Intermediate, so please register early as possible if you want to run with us at Thunderhill...go to motorsportreg.com, create and account and identify Diablo PCA as one of ‘your clubs’. Then, you will be notified of our events and be able to register.

September 5th at Thunderhill should be another excellent day with guaranteed great weather. You can stay on an extra day and run with HOD on the 9/6 at their Derric’s Day, where all proceeds go the Pros- tate Cancer Foundation – you may not know that Derric DesMarteaux was a Diablo Club member and active DE participant.

Recently, I have been asked a couple of questions I would like to address in this column...firstly, ‘if I want to come out to the track with Diablo, do I have to attend the DE 101/201 evening?’

We’d love it if you did, but it is not compulsory to drive the track. Diablo’s events are very laid back and our instructors work with students 1:1 on the day, both in-car and providing downloads (group discussion after each run), at which we address questions, coach the group and provide feedback. Not only does this help with learning on the day, but also maximizes the fun factor.

Together with a good buffet lunch, there’s plenty of opportunity to chat with everyone, make new friends and share experiences... that’s what it’s all about!
