Two for the price of one; What a deal! A morning scenic driving tour through Western and Central Contra Costa County, followed by a lunch break and an afternoon loop around Martinez and the Carquinez Strait, then on to Eastern CoCo to check out the new pavement along the back side of Mount Diablo.

Route:

Morning: This route will take us from the Sycamore Valley Park & Ride through Lafayette, Moraga and Canyon. After passing through Canyon we will continue along Pinehurst Road and Skyline Boulevard to Grizzly Peak Road. We will continue through Tilden Park to Orinda where we will follow San Pablo Dam Road past the reservoir to El Sobrante. From there we will head north on Castro Ranch Road, East on Alhambra Valley Road and south on Bear Creek Road (skirting Briones Reservoir) back to Orinda. We’ll then head to Heather Farms in Walnut Creek for a bio break and lunch.

Afternoon: From Heather Farms we’ll head for Pleasant Hill (Taylor Boulevard) and Martinez via Reliez Valley & Alhambra Valley Roads then blasting up the Franklin Canyon; over the rolling hills into Crockett with its spectacular views of San Pablo Bay and the Carquinez Strait. From there it’s follow the river and through the woods looping back to Martinez via Franklin Canyon. As a necessary evil, we’ll head East on Hwy 4 to Antioch where we’ll get back on the B roads again to enjoy the meandering twisty asphalt of Deer Valley and Marsh Creek Roads (freshly paved just for us!) on our way back to Walnut Creek.
