Using Ride with GPS for Diablo Region Tours

For our upcoming tour, we will be trying out Ride with GPS Club as a navigation option. We encourage you to give it a try and let us know what you think. Your feedback will help us determine whether Ride with GPS is a useful tool for future Club tours.

We are using a Club so that participants receive turn-by-turn voice navigation at no cost when navigating Club routes.

Please note that the Google and Apple Maps routes are provided primarily as a reference and include our major stops, such as bio-breaks and lunch stops. However, Google and Apple Maps may reroute you between waypoints based on its own routing preferences, including traffic conditions or what it determines to be the fastest route. As a result, we cannot guarantee that Google  and Apple Maps will follow our intended Tour route.

Step 1 – Join the Diablo Region Ride with GPS Club

If you have not already joined our Ride with GPS Club, please use the following invitation link to join our Club account:

  • If you already have a Ride with GPS account (free or paid), please sign in to your account first, then click the invitation link. This ensures your Club membership is added to your existing account.

  • If you do not have a Ride with GPS account, simply click the invitation link and create a free account when prompted.

Step 2 – Install the Ride with GPS App

Download the Ride with GPS app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and sign in using the same account that you used to join the Club.

Step 3 - Select the Club Account

Find the Organizations button along the top; you may need to scroll to the right to see the button. Click on it and select Porsche Club of America - Diablo Region.

Step 4 – Access the Tour Routes

After joining the Club, you will have access to the routes. Scroll down to find the route for your tour.

Step 5 – Before Each Day's Drive

  1. Open the route for that day's drive.

  2. Save and Download the route for offline use if cellular coverage may be limited. We recommend downloading the route the day before the tour to ensure you have the most current version.

  3. Tap Navigate to begin turn-by-turn voice navigation.

Turn-by-Turn Voice Navigation

In addition to displaying the route and upcoming directions on your phone screen, Ride with GPS provides spoken turn-by-turn directions while you are driving.

If your phone is connected to your vehicle via Bluetooth, Ride with GPS spoken directions should play through your car’s audio system. This allows you to hear upcoming turns without having to look at your phone.

If your phone is connected via Bluetooth but you do not hear the spoken turn-by-turn directions, you can use your phone’s speaker instead. To do this, either:

  • Turn off the setting that sends Ride with GPS audio to your car, or

  • Temporarily turn off your phone’s Bluetooth connection.

We apologize for the inconvenience and are exploring the best way to address this issue.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not currently supported by Ride with GPS.

Handlebar Mode

One feature we recommend using is Handlebar Mode.

When Handlebar Mode is enabled, the navigation map remains on the screen throughout the drive instead of allowing the phone to dim or lock. This provides a continuously visible map showing:

  • Your current location

  • The planned route

  • Upcoming turns

  • Your progress along the route

Many participants find this reassuring because they can quickly glance at the map to confirm they are still on the planned route while also receiving voice prompts.

To enable Handlebar Mode

  1. Open the Ride with GPS app.

  2. Tap your Profile (or More) menu.

  3. Select Settings.

  4. Turn Handlebar Mode On.

You only need to enable this setting once. It will remain enabled for future rides unless you turn it off.

For safety, please position your phone where it does not obstruct your view of the road and avoid interacting with the app while driving.
