Diablo’s 40th Anniversary (Jubilaum 40 Jahre)!

We've reserved a block of 15 rooms for Porsche Club of America Diablo Region at the beautiful Double Tree Pleasanton at the Club, 7050 Johnson Drive, Pleasanton, CA, at $159/night plus taxes and fees. This is for out-of-area participants and those who'd like to stay after the Saturday night dinner held at the Double Tree. Call 925/463-8000 and make your arrangements.
The following is a brief description of the weekend events. They include tours, other fun, non-driving events, a car show, Zone Concours, and social events. Mix it up and also allow yourself time to visit the many attractions in the Diablo region. In honor of our 40th anniversary, the Club is subsidizing many of the events to allow as many members as possible to participate.
Saturday, May 25th, we have four events planned.
Of course, we’ll continue with our regular Breakfast at the Buttercup at 660 Ygnacio Blvd in Walnut Creek and give away special anniversary raffle prizes! Breakfast is followed by a discussion of the remarkable cars that show up for this event and a visit with friends, old and new. Folks start showing up at 7:00 am, but arriving at 8:00 am is okay. Time will not allow you to participate in the Breakfast and the 3 Dealer Poker Rallye, which starts at Porsche Fremont. No need to pre-register. Meals are out of pocket.
Join the 3 Dealer Poker Rallye, which includes a tour of much of the Diablo region, a visit to each of our 3 Porsche Dealers, and lunch at Walnut Creek Porsche. Arrive by 9:00 am at Porsche Livermore, 3100 Las Positas Road, Livermore, CA 94551, for a light breakfast and instructions. The Rallye spans approximately 130 miles and is expected to end at Porsche Fremont, 5740 Cushing Parkway, Fremont, CA 94538 at approximately 3:00 PM. The final card and awards will be presented at the get-together at KarPark on Saturday evening. So be sure to sign up for both events. This event is limited to 60 participants, so sign up early! Registration is $15.00 per person.
Take advantage of a unique opportunity with Kelly Telfer. Kelly’s artwork is featured at the legendary Petersen Museum and the LeMay – America’s Car Museum in Tacoma. He’s PCA’s “go-to” artist and is an entertaining and compelling art instructor. He'll instruct you in painting your own Porsche classic! Starting at 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, the class will be conducted at the beautiful Ruby Hill Community Center at 2900 E. Ruby Hill Drive, Pleasanton, CA 94566. Beverages will be provided. Identify yourself at the gate, and the guard will direct you to the Community Center. Registration is limited to 40 people, and the price is $45 per person.
Join us from 6pm to 9 pm Saturday night at KarPark 3 Wyoming Street #100. Pleasanton, CA 94566 for an evening of beverages, Vatos Tacos Truck, a no-host bar, a Tech/Trivia Quiz, and the Poker Rallye Awards (you must be present to win) surrounded by many rare and exotic cars. Registration is limited to 120, and the price is $35.00 per person.
Sunday, May 26th, we have three events planned.
Participate in the 7-Bridges Gimmick Rallye on Sunday. It will take you over all the bridges of our San Francisco Bay and provide you with genuinely exceptional vistas of the Bay Area. The round trip route starting and ending at the Double Tree Hotel parking lot, 7050 Johnson Drive, Pleasanton, CA is approximately 185 miles and takes approximately 5 hours to drive without stops. The first cars will depart at approximately 8:00 AM. This is not a Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) Rallye. The Rallye will require you to navigate between specified locations. If you are comfortable with this, you may participate in this Rallye as a solo driver. You can move at your own pace and stop for a bite or a beverage along the way. Awards will be presented at Sunday night’s dinner, so sign up for both events. Registration is unlimited, and the price is $15 per person.
Enjoy a unique way to tour the Livermore Valley wine region in the comfort and coziness of the vintage-style Livermore Wine Trolly. It will take you through the Livermore Valley to Shadow Puppet Brewery ($2 tasting), Rios Lovell Winery ($20 tasting fee), and Woods Family Winery ($20 tasting fee) for an enjoyable afternoon. The Trolly will leave at 11:00 am from the Double Tree Hotel, 7050 Johnson Drive, Pleasanton, CA. and return at 4:00 pm. Registration is limited to 34, and the price is $45, which covers transportation. Tasting fees are out of pocket.
Sunday Dinner at the Pleasanton Double Tree, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, will be a memorable evening. Along with a delicious meal, we'll have displays of cars and memorabilia. We'll also express appreciation to Diablo's founding members, long-time members, and past Presidents. You’ll also have time to visit with old and new friends. We will announce the Gimmick Rallye Winners and present their prizes. (Again, you must be present to win.) Registration is limited to 120, and the price is $70.
Monday, May 27th
We'll hold the Zone 7 Concours and the Memorial Day Car Show at the beautiful Livery Shopping Center in Danville100-820 Sycamore Valley Road West, Danville, CA 94526. The Concours will kick off the Zone 7 Concours series and will surely attract many beautiful show cars spanning Porsche history. If you don't Concour, sign up for our traditional non-judged Memorial Day Car Show. Who knows, you may win Best of Show! Please participate in our raffle for Paws for Veterans, which provides service dogs to veterans in California, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Visit our Membership Tent to sign up and continue your participation in Diablo and PCA events. Also, drop by our Treads and Threads booth and learn about Diablo's service to Contra Costa County Hospital's patients and, perhaps, make a donation. Our favorite Mexican restaurant, Luna Loca, will serve lunch and no-host Margaritas. Registration for car show participants is limited to 120, and the price is $35, including lunch. Concours participant's price is $50, including trophies and lunch. Additional lunches are available at $25 per lunch.

On day one our route takes us out to the Monterey Peninsula, then turns inland for lunch at the Eberly Winery, ending the day in Santa Barbara. Day two takes us to Sylmar home of the Nethercutt Auto Museum followed by a drive on the Pacific Coast Highway back to Santa Barbara. Day three takes us through the Santa Ynez Mountains with the tour ending in San Luis Obispo. Registration open. 5/8/2024 - Tours 201 Zoom training - This is the first of a two-part Tours 201 training for those interested in helping with the Tours as a Run Group Lead, Relay, or Sweep. This classroom training will be facilitated via a Zoom meeting. Although we prefer that you also participate in the practice drive on Saturday, May 8, 2024, it is not required. Registration open. 5/9/2024 - Dinner at Mankas Grill, see the Recurring Events section below for additional details. 5/11/2024 - Tours 201 - This tour is for members that are interested in being run group Leads, Relays, and Sweeps. The route includes highways, streets, and backroads. Participants will have the opportunity to practice each of these roles during the tour. The route will travel part of the route that will be used for the 3-Dealer Tour/Poker Rally. We hope that those that have volunteered to help with the 3-Dealer Tour/Poker Rally will be able to participate in this training. See below for additional information. 6/1/2024 - 7th Annual Porsches & Pups Tour - This is the 7th annual tour that started in 2017. It has slowly been growing as more Porsche owners are choosing to bring their Furkids with them on the adventures! The Tour will depart from Denny's in Fremont and head towards Half Moon Bay. We will have a scenic drive through the Monte Bello Open Space Preserve and through Loma Mar before completing the drive over the hills to Cameron's Pub and Restaurant in Half Moon Bay for lunch. Registration open. 6/4-5/2024 - Groveland/Yosemite Tour ( 6/18/2024 - 4-Door Tour - Join us in for a 2 hr/ 60 miles tour for 4 door Porsches. Tour is starting at Marin Country Mart, Larkspur, CA. Several stores have coffee and breakfast treats (Rustic Bakery, Johnny Doughnuts, and Starbucks) before the tour starts. We finish at RH (Restoration Hardware) Rooftop Restaurant for a group lunch. Two tables of 12 will be reserved, individual checks. Taycans are welcome on this tour as there are charging stations near the starting location and the destination. Registration open. 6/25-26/2024 - Boonville/Anderson Valley Tour (Overnight) - Before Napa and Sonoma became big-name, luxurious tourist destinations, they looked and felt a lot like Anderson Valley: quieter and rural, with no traffic, resorts or fancy restaurants. Tastings took place at a makeshift bar, not inside a flashy, reservations-only visitor center serving $200 lunch from a Michelin-trained chef. And so we will go there on June 25th. The Club wants to select ten unique cars for display at the 40th Jubilaum Car Show on Monday, May 27th, at the Livery. We will have two categories: new models; and, exemplary early (356/911/914) air-colled cars. We ask that you place your vehicle for display by 8:00 am on the day of the event and leave it in place until 3:00 pm. Tours If you are aware of some fun roads to drive, or an interesting destination, please contact the Tour Committee Chair (Carolyn Wong Registration for tours and other events is done via Eventbrite (you will need to create an account with Eventbrite to register for a tour). Watch for a link to the registration site in this section of the ENews or on our website. Tours often sell out the same day tickets go on sale. Be prepared to sign-up for tours as soon as registration is open. If you are unable to register for the tour, add your name to the waitlist in case of cancellations. Emails regarding last-minute Tour information and openings for waitlisted individuals will come from Eventbrite and If you wish to purchase your own radio, the Club is using the Motorola Talkabout T800 radios. These are sold in pairs through Amazon for about $85.00. These radios are FRS/GMRS compatible, have 22 channels and 121 privacy codes (or sub-channels).
